This month saw the launch of two key, community-focused events, as we invited people to our social enterprise hub on Linthorpe Road, from afternoon until evening.

Community Marketplace

From 11AM, people from grassroots charities all over the town began setting up stalls and displaying information about who they are, what they do, and who they work with. In total, 16 charities had the opportunity to showcase their mission, while meeting potential collaborators along the way. Community Marketplace events like this tie into many of the excellent suggestions raised at the launch of BRIM, on how community building can and should take place.

Alcohol-free social evening

And the second event of the day took place just a few hours, and feet away, downstairs at Fork in the Road Cafe, from 7pm until 9pm. The first of what will become fortnightly events on Linthorpe Road saw community members, staff, and other people from across the town come together for an evening of reduced-price food and alcohol-free drinks.

And of course, it is not just the recovery community who enjoy attending such events – more and more people across the country are choosing to drink less, or abstain from alcohol completely, too. This was the third such event we’ve held so far in 2022, and the first of what will become regular summer nights for the coming weeks.

These events tie firmly into the three key criterions of BRIM; Community, Contagion, and Recovery Champions, as people have the opportunity to share experience, and learn more more about what the local recovery community does.
