Celebration of Recovery at Durham Cathedral
Join us at Durham Cathedral for a special Celebration of Recovery event. This meaningful occasion will feature a Cathedral Service, highlighting the journey and triumphs of recovery. The event will also showcase the harmonious voices of the Recovery Connections regional choir, uplifting all with their inspiring performance. Additionally, there will be a poignant blessing of recovery banners, each uniquely crafted in Middlesbrough, Darlington, and Richmond, Virginia, symbolising resilience and hope. Mark your calendars for October 27th, from 2pm to 3pm, and be part of this uplifting celebration. All are welcome to attend and share in the spirit of community and recovery.

Durham Cathedral Bus
The Cathedral Bus connects the Cathedral and Castle to the train station and coach drop-off point at Freeman’s Place. It runs throughout the day, Monday to Saturday. The bus will be operating on Sundays until 1 November.
The buses are suitable for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Park and ride holders travel free. Check fares and timetable information for the Cathedral Bus.
Durham City car parks
Durham’s narrow, medieval streets mean there is no parking at the Cathedral itself, but there are several car parks a short walk away. Find locations and tariffs on Durham County Council’s Durham City car parks page.
Park and Ride scheme
Park your car and take a bus into the city centre. These car parks are open all year round from 7am – 7pm Monday to Saturday, excluding Bank Holidays:
- Belmont Park and Ride – DH1 1SR
- Sniperley Park and Ride – DH1 5RA
- Howlands Farm Park and Ride – DH1 3TQ

Disabled and blue badge parking
There is limited parking on Palace Green, in front of the cathedral, for people with limited mobility. To enquire about disabled parking, contact the Palace Green security office by phone on 0191 334 2222.
Durham City centre congestion charge
There is a congestion charge if you drive onto the Durham City peninsula between 10am and 2am, Monday to Sunday, (excluding Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day).
