Starting your recovery journey
Recovery Connections became part of the Wear Recovery Service in 2021. Based at The Galleries, Washington, we provide lived experience recovery support to local people affected by drugs or alcohol. This means that our teams of managers and coaches, dedicated to helping people find recovery, have experienced addiction in the past, themselves.
That’s what makes us a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation. And, what makes us the ideal place for people struggling with alcohol use, or the consumption of substances, to begin their own journey of recovery.
You may also find Recovery Connections via our partnership with Change Grow Live, as part of Wear Recovery.

Find your recovery community
With a regular programme of group meetings and activities, opportunities for volunteering and joining our ambassador programme, plus IPS Employment Specialists on site, we are able to provide opportunities for everyone who comes to us for support.
Plus, in Hendon we also run a small, cosy social enterprise cafe, ideal for 1-2-1’s and hosting intimate recovery celebrations, including our monthly sober social events. Discover:

How do I get started with recovery support in Sunderland
To begin your support journey, you first need to contact Wear Recovery (CGL) either through self-referral or via a professional.
After reaching out, you will complete a triage assessment with CGL, where your level of support will be determined. If you are accessing Wear Recovery, you are welcome to attend our groups.
Should you require more intensive treatment, you will be assigned a key worker from CGL and referred into groups once you feel stable and ready.
If you need lower-level or relapse prevention support, you will be allocated directly to Recovery Connections and receive an introductory phone call along with a timetable.
One-to-one support will be available once you are part of the community, but we will also offer extra support if you need it initially, prior to group attendance.
