A selection of original poetry as published in the book, now available to purchase online.

Curated over eight months, with 54 unique, creative pieces compiled, Recovery Voices was officially launched this month, in Middlesbrough & Gateshead.

The new book, available to purchase in paperback and eBook format – now – contains the words, experiences and journeys of Recovery Connections staff, ambassadors, volunteers, and community members.

Compiled and launched by regional author, Helen Aitchison, and her publishing company, Write on the Tyne, Recovery Voices was created to challenge addiction stigma, tell the individual journey of Recovery, and give a lasting voice to its many authors.

We aim to get northern voices heard and stories of marginalised people told – working with Recovery Connections and the amazing storyholders has enabled this to happen.

Impact & Development Lead, Mark Stephenson, said of the project: “Working with Helen and Write on The Tyne has been a great experience for the charity and our community. We opened up the opportunity across the north east to embark on a creative journey of learning and discovery.”

“Many people embraced the chance and ‘Recovery Voices‘ is testament to their honesty, openness, passion and skills when using the written word. The relationships nurtured and skills honed along the way will have an ongoing legacy.”

Recovery Voices has been an incredible project for Write on the Tyne to be involved with. We aim to get northern voices heard and stories of marginalised people told,” added Helen Aitchison.

“Working with Recovery Connections and the amazing storyholders has enabled this to happen. Each of the pieces in the anthology demonstrates resilience, empowerment, and determination, alongside a strong message of stigma challenging and awareness raising.”

“The staff and people accessing Recovery Connections welcomed me in and the result is a book that will be sold worldwide filled with inspiring messages of hope. Thank you to all involved.”
