Trauma Therapy Counselling in Middlesbrough & Gateshead
The Recovery Connections Trauma Therapy Counselling Service is an addition to the Recovery Connections family, a project funded by The National Lottery Community Foundation.
The trauma therapy service offers free and confidential counselling to anyone currently living in Middlesbrough or Gateshead, who may have experienced trauma and associated substance and alcohol use, either
personally or within the family.
What is Trauma?
Trauma can come in many forms, such as domestic or family violence, intimate partner violence, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, physical abuse, natural disaster, surgery, bereavement/loss/death, poverty, racism or anything else that you feel is distressing and has a lasting negative impact on you.
But don’t worry, we’re here to help you grow, thrive and understand how to manage your trauma.
How does it work?
From your very first session, we will start our therapeutic relationship in the right way – looking at where you are right now. Our sessions are open-ended, so there will be no pressure on you to rush, and we will have time to focus on what’s important to you. Adults of any age are welcome to begin trauma therapy, and you will be in control of the sessions at all times.
Therapy Sessions
You’ll be supported to understand the part trauma may have played in your own experiences of addiction and recovery. During the therapy sessions, you will be given the tools and understanding to help aid and support you on your recovery journey.

Your Options
Trauma therapy is available in various formats providing you with the option of face-to-face counselling sessions, completely online, or over the telephone – whichever you are most comfortable with.

Trauma-informed counselling is open to anyone in recovery, over 18 and living in Gateshead or Middlesbrough and the wider communities within these locations. Support may be also be available, even if you aren’t currently working with Recovery Connections or a similar organisation.
