Spreading the word: Students in Addiction Recovery

This month, there has been even more movement on the journey of making UK Universities Recovery Friendly. We launched a free, weekly online meeting for students to access, via Zoom, and hosted an informative webinar as part of the John Smith Group‘s Wellbeing Month campaign (Scroll down the page to watch the presentation).

The online meeting provides a regular, safe space for students in addiction recovery to login, listen, share, and learn about recovery while also having the ability to talk about all the regular pressures of university life. Recovery Connections staff, connected to local Universities, will be on hand during each meeting, to discuss Recovery from addiction to alcohol, substances, and behavioural addictions too.

So, the webinar, hosted by the JS Group, created an ideal situation to let a large number of people involved in student services know about the meeting, and other ongoing work. The group support the delivery and impact of student bursaries, scholarships, and other financial support to more than 30 universities and 400,000 students – providing an ideal springboard to talk about Collegiate Recovery in the UK.
