One month today and Dan Zadeh will be starting out on a mammoth fundraising campaign to raise money for Recovery Connections.

“In April 2019 I was fortunate enough to enter a dayhab facility ran by Recovery Connections in Gateshead. At the time I thought my life was over. I knew that I couldn’t continue the way I was living but I also couldn’t imagine a life without drink/drugs. They were my best friend and worst enemy all in one, the only consistent in my life and the only thing I’d ever truly loved. They were there for the good times, the bad times and the whatever else in between times, but they’d long stopped working.”

On April 10th, Dan celebrates 5 years of Recovery and he states none of that would have been possible without Recovery Connections. “They gave me hope when I had no hope. They believed in me when I didn’t even believe in myself. In short, they helped lay the foundations of my Recovery that would lead me to live the life I live today”

We interviewed Dan as part of his globetrotting fundraising efforts, last month.

Dan has decided to set himself a huge task and take part in not 1, but 5 challenges – one for every year in recovery – to raise money for an organisation who in his words, gave him his life back.

His fundraising begins on April 13th where he will take part in the Ibiza Half Marathon, a special course through different landscapes across the island.

In May, from 9th to 12th, Dan will then Climb Mount Toukbal in Morocco, the highest mountain in North Africa. This climb will take 2 days and will involve camping out on the mountain!

As if this wasn’t enough, on 26th May, he will run the Edinburgh Marathon as part of a group of 12, all of whom are in recovery. His competitive side is hoping he will cross the finish line first out of the group – watch this space!

Challenge number 4 known as The Wall, takes place in the middle of June, where Dan will have 26 hours to run a 70 mile marathon from Carlisle to Newcastle.

Finally, the fifth challenge will be the Pilgrims Ultra, starting at Holy Island and completing 100 miles in 30 hours ending at Heaven Field!
