Support people, build connections, and be part of recovery journeys
At Recovery Connections, we believe in hope, belonging, and the power of community. We’re looking for a passionate and committed Community Coach to join our Gateshead team — someone who believes that people can and do recover, and wants to play a part in making that happen every day.
About the Role
We’re looking for a passionate and motivated Community Coach to join our team in the heart of Middlesbrough, where we’ve been since 2008.
This is a rewarding role where you’ll support individuals on their recovery journey—helping them build confidence, connect with others, and access the support they need to live fulfilling, independent lives.
You’ll deliver group activities, provide one-to-one support, and promote a range of recovery pathways, including mutual aid. Most importantly, you’ll play a key role in creating a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment where people feel supported to grow.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting and delivering group sessions that promote recovery, wellbeing and personal development
- Encouraging and supporting individuals to access mutual aid and community-based support
- Providing one-to-one guidance and helping individuals identify their recovery goals
- Offering information and advice to people affected by substance use
- Working collaboratively with partner agencies and attending multi-disciplinary meetings
- Keeping clear and accurate records, reports, and monitoring data
- Supporting the ongoing development of services and activities
- Promoting a positive, inclusive and non-judgemental approach in all interactions
What We’re Looking For
We’re more interested in your values, attitude and approach than a perfect CV.
You might be:
- Compassionate and non-judgemental, with a genuine belief that people can recover
- A confident communicator who can build positive relationships
- Motivated, proactive and able to use your initiative
- Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Organised, with good attention to detail
You will also need:
- Understanding of recovery approaches (e.g. 12-step, SMART Recovery)
- Awareness of issues relating to substance use and social exclusion
- A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion
Experience & Qualification
- Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care (or equivalent)
- Experience of leading groups or facilitating sessions
- Experience of providing one-to-one support (desirable)
- Experience of working within recovery or community services (desirable)
- Lived or learned experience of addiction and recovery is welcomed
What Matters to Us
At Recovery Connections, we:
- Believe people can and do recover
- Value lived experience, peer support and community connection
- Work in a trauma-informed, non-judgemental way
- Create safe and inclusive spaces for everyone
Experience
- Experience of delivering group sessions or supporting people in a coaching role
- Experience of working with individuals in a recovery or community setting (desirable)

- Ability to engage, motivate, and build relationships with others
- Organised, reliable, and able to manage your workload effectively
- Empathetic, non-judgemental, and approachable
Qualifications
Level 2 qualification in Health & Social Care, coaching, counselling (or willingness to complete within 12 months — fully funded)
