We’re not just another drug or alcohol service. We’re a community — led by people in recovery, who support others through it.
And we exist to fight the stigma faced by people who have experienced drug and alcohol problems.
At its core, this stigma comes from misunderstanding, Most notably, because many people have no real sense of why another person may have used drugs or alcohol problematically.
Yet with our unique perspective as a Lived Experience Recovery Organisation, we can correct this. We can build empathy and community. And we can offer a platform for individuals who are in recovery to share their stories, so that others can learn.
But, to keep our work going, we need help from people who believe in what we do. And when you fundraise for Recovery Connections, you’re helping us to:
- Keep our peer-led recovery hubs running
- Support people through housing, employment and education
- Reach those most isolated or at risk
- Challenge stigma and make recovery visible in our communities
Every penny you raise helps someone to move forward — often at the hardest point in their life.
Ways to get involved
Whether it’s a coffee morning, a sponsored walk, or something completely your own — we’ll support you every step of the way.
Here are a few ways you can help, just like Dan and Joe, here:
- Organise a fundraising event
- Take on a sponsored challenge
- Ask for donations in place of birthday or wedding gifts
- Get your workplace or school involved
- Set up a monthly donation — big or small
We’ll provide resources, support, and a big thank you — however you choose to help.
Dan's five challenges for five years in Recovery
In 2024, Dan Zadeh embarked on a remarkable fundraising journey, setting himself not just one, but FIVE gruelling challenges for the year. Each challenge represented one year of recovery, since his journey began in our Gateshead dayhab programme, back in 2019. Ever since, Dan he kept in touch with his rehab coach, Joe, and was immensely proud to raise money for Recovery Connections, while taking on personal challenges that he has set himself since finding recovery. In this video, he talks about what his journey, and his then upcoming series of challenges, meant to him as a person in recovery.
Claire's Skydiving Extravaganza
Ever wanted to do something, but never quite got around to planning it? In 2025, our very own Claire Talukder took to the skies to satisfy a lifelong goal to skydive. And, she raised more than £400 for the charity, in the process. Using our own Just Giving platform, which is free to sign up to, Claire was able to put a big tick on her to-do list, and raise some much needed funds along the way. Check out the full video of her skydive, here.
